The battle of the atlantic was the longest continueous military campaign in World War II, running from 1939 to the defeat of Germany in 1945. It began with the Allied naval blockade of Germany, and Germany's counter blockade. Pitted German U-Boats and other war boats of the Kriegsmarine aginst the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Navy, and Allied merchant shipping. -
