Battle of Britain
The Battle of Britain was a massive air war between the allied and axis powers, specifically Germany and Britain. Germany was attempting to cause devastating damage over Britain, causing a powerful response, and important air battle to take place. In the end, the British won, giving the allies victory in the air war. -
Operation Barbarossa
Operation Barbarossa, named after a German King was the Axis surprise attack on the Soviet Union. Their goal was to quickly and efficiently attack and blitzkrieg as much Soviet Territory until winter immobilized them. It was an all out assault from the Axis border, from Memel (Germany, Lithuania) and Bessarabia (Romania). -
Battle of El Alemein
The second battle of El Alemein, the more important of the two, was famous for acting as a defensive choke point to protect the rest of Egypt from the axis powers. Allied forces were victorious in the end, and eventually forced the axis out of Libya. -
Operation Torch
Operation Torch was the Allied recapture of French North Africa from Axis and Vichy France control. After the battle of El Alamein, axis forces were weaker and could not effectively respond to the attack, causing Allied victory. -
Battle of Kursk
The battle of Kursk was a battle between German and Soviet forces around the town of Kursk. The Germans attempted a pincer attack to surround soviet forces around the town. It is known for the amount of armor involved, as thousands of takins on both sides were used. The Soviet forces were victorious. -
Operation Overlord
Operation Overlord was the nickname or code name given to the important battle of Normandy, where the Allied Powers staged a massive naval landing in Northern France. It was a massive and daring attempt to free Western Europe from axis control, as well as relieve pressure off of the Soviet Union. -
The Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference was the meeting between the leaders of Britain, the USA, and the Soviet Union. Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin discussed what would happen to Europe after the war was over in order to maintain peace after the war.
