Operation Barbarossa
Germany led by Adolf Hitler ordered the armies eastward in a large scale invasion of the Soviet Union. Hitler was hoping to gain more resources in order to continue invading different countries. France and Poland had been invaded within weeks. The Germans hoped to have control of Russia before winter. -
Operation Torch
American troops landed in French Morocco, and started pushing German troops east. While the British pushed the Germans west. By 1943 the axis troops hadn’t been pushed out of Africa. -
Battle of Stalingrad
Hitler wanted to control Stalingrad for various reasons. Those reasons mainly were it would hurt Russia and Stalin. Russian forces were able to originally able to slowly down Germany’s advances, however Stalin’s forces decreases by 200,000 men. -
Operation Overlord
Operation Overlord also know as D-day was when the Western Allies launched the biggest and most ambitious invasion in history. The invasion allowed for the allies to establish a beachhead as part of the attack. Slowly the Allies started gaining more territory, the Axis tried to stop them. However, they were forced to retreat. -
Battle of the Bulge
The battle of the Bulge was Hitler’s last big attack, against the western allies. He hoped the attack would divide the allies as they approach Germany. Roughly 30 German divisions attacking battle-fatigued Americans. The Germans attacked the Americans across 85 miles of the dense Ardennes Forest. -
Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference was meeting of leaders, mainly comprised of the Western allies and European leaders. The goal of the meeting was to discuss the reorganization of post-war Europe. The meeting took place in the Livadia Palace near Yalta in Crimea.
