  • Battle of the Atlantic

    This is the longest battle of WWII. Allied forces (Britain) struggled to ship supplies across the Atlantic. It is important because Allies were able to receive their supplies and fight off the U-boats. As a result, the Germans stopped their U-boat operation.
  • Battle of Dunkirk

    Dunkirk was the only port in which BEF could be evacuated. Many ships arrived to rescue the troops. About 350,000 Allied troops were rescued which influenced the remainder of the war.

  • Britain (Air Battle)

    Germans wanted to invade England but decided that the Royal Air Force must be impaired first. This battle also halted the attack on the USSR. It was also the 1st defeat of Hitler's military forces.

    Stalingrad forshadowed Allied victory at the end of the war. After Germans lost this battle, they did not advance further into Eastern Europe because they were weakened because they used up their resources. The Soviets regained territory they lost from the Germans.

    Mongomery improved relationships with the Desert Air Force for a unified attack plan. Rommel struggled to prepare for an attack due to a lack of supplies. This battle pushed German forces out of North Africa and opened the path for the Invasion of Italy.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch introduced American forces to the European theater. This battle took place on the coast of French-Morocco. The invasion was done by 3 task forces and was done in the course of 3 days.

  • Invasion of Palermo

    With orders from Churchill, Allied forces invade Sicily. Axis Powers were pushed into the Italian mainland. The fall of Palermo resulted in trouble in Mussolini's goernment. This battle opened up a 2nd front which took pressure off the USSR.
  • Palermo (Air Battle)

    Under harsh weather conditions, Allied troops combined their operations. This battle weakend the Axis' defenses. Also, Great Britain conquered Italy from the Axis Powers.

  • Monte Cassino

    A series of four battles to stop the Allies' advances up Italy. Germans removed themselves from Gustav Line. This opened up a path for the Allies to advance into Rome.

    This was the turning point in the war and was the largest fleet ever assembled. Allies opened the 2nd front against Hitler. As a result, the war was brought to the western border of Germany.

    Being Hitler's last major offensive of the war, Germans wanted to split the Allied line but lost many experienced troops and a lot of their supplies. This brought up the end of the war.

    This is the most controversial bombing done by the Allies and it was the most destructive bombing. The bombing of Dresden killed approximately 135,000 people when the Allies were bombing German cities that were involved in war production.
