    Spices in Europe
    In the late middle ages Europeans began to like spices. Most spices came from Asia, because they had to be shiped halfway accross the world on risky voyages they were vry costly. For hundreds of years, the Italian port in Venice controlled this trade. Some Europeans started looking for ways to bypass Venices hold on the spices. In Portugul a prince named Henry The Navigator urged Captains to go southward and see if they could find a way around Venice. In 1497-1498 it was done by Vasco da Gama.

    King Francis I sent Italian navigator Giovanni da verrazanoto the west. He first reached the outer banks of N.C. Across the narrow islands he thaught he saw the Pacific Ocean, but he actualy saw the Pamlico. When he went back to report to the king he was occupied on the war. After that he stoped funding the American exploration.
