Germany initiated a blitzkreig and invaded the western half of Poland while the Soviet Union invaded the eastern half. They had fully taken control within the span of 1 day. -
Germany invades France
After making it's way through Belgium, and the rest of the countries surrounding france, Germany finally went for the capital and was met with little resistance. The French didn't expect the Germans to enter from Belgium and had made a blockade on the German border instead. They were completely blindsided. -
Invasion of Soviet Union by Germany
One of Germany's few mistakes in the war, Hitler decided to break the treaty that he made with Stalin and invade the Soviet Union anyway. Unfortunately for the German's they didn't expect the harsh winter that was to come. -
Battle of Moscow
With the winter finally upon the Germans and the Russians falling in full force the Germans were trapped so to speak. Hitler however, wouldn't accept retreat and told his troops to fight until the death. After many casualties, most from the harsh conditions, most of the troops finally surrendered anyway. -
Attack of Pearl Harbor
Remembered as "a day that will live in infamy", Pearl Harbor was the catalyst that sparked the fire in the American's to jump into the war. Japanese planes bombed the the harbor in hopes of cripling the navy and keeping the states out of the war. Unfortunately, they only caused the opposite reaction which led to catastrophic consequences for the Japanese. -
Battle of Stalingrad
Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union fought this critical battle for control of the city of Stalingrad. Civilians were directly targeted during this battle by air raids and it was often regarded as the bloodiest battle in the history of warfare. -
Alamein
Was a major turning point for the Allies in the Wester Desert Campaign. Also turned the tide in the North African Campaign and ended the Axis threat to Egypt, the Suez Canal, and of gaining access to persian and middle eastern oil fields. -
Normandy invasion (D-Day)
Otherwise known as Operation Overlord, the Normandy Invasion was the largest amphibious invasion to ever take place. The landings were then preceded by massive aerial and naval bombardments along with heavy fire from machine guns positioned in bunkers on shore. The shore was mined and covered with obstacles like wooden stakes, metal tripods, and barbed wire. -
Battle of the Bulge
Was the last major German defensive campaign against the Allies. Took place across the countried of Belgium, France, and Luxembourg. The Germans caught the Americans completely off guard by minimizing radio-traffic and moving troops and equipment under the cover of darkness. -
