People coming to colonies
An estimated 300,000 people came to Australian colonies from England and Wales which added on another 100,000 from Scotland and also 84,000 from Ireland. We had also 5,000 from New Zeal and and some other South Pacific nations, we then had around 42,000 people from China that also arrived in Australia in the 1850's gold rush. -
First gold rush
Samples of gold had been found on Buns Station at Clunes. This then directly lead to the first gold rush in Victoria from Esmonds subsequent discovery of payable gold. -
Lincences fees been increased
Those diggers that are not finding gold seem to be having there licences fees been increased and unfair. They were all getting unhappy with the treatment received from the police and government authorities, who they believed they are corrupt. Other diggers who cant find gold wish to purchase land for farming as well as having the right to vote at elections. -
Ballarat reform league is formed
The Ballarat league was formed officially on 11th Of November 1854, this was at a mass meeting, it was to protest against the Victorian goverments mining policy. -
Eurkeka Hotel being burned down
There were three adults that were convicted of the manslaughter of James Scobie, these men were James Bentley, Thomas Farrell and William Hance. James Scobie was then found dead near the burnt down Eureka Hotel. There were also other men that had tried to convict of his murder. -
Eureka stockade
This was a rebellion in 1854, it was all instigated by gold miners in Ballarat Victoria Australia. Australia was revolted against the colonial authority of the United Kingdom. -
