Governor Hotham came to Australia and had lots of power in June 1854. He made a check-up to check the licences (the diggers had to) have twice a week to enforce the licensing laws. The licences increased more and more. -
Diggers set fire to hotel
The diggers met each other on the 17th of October and then they tried to bring men to justice. After their secret meeting they burnt down Bentley's Hotel to the ground. After three of the diggers got arrested and charged with arson for their part in setting the hotel on fire. -
