Yellowstone national park was the first of many national parks in the United states and this created a larger interest in preserving nature and showcasing the beauty of nature the impact this had on the environment was that people had more appreciation for the beauty of nature and made people all around the united states come together to protect land and agree it should remain nature. -

The dust bowl is the name for the drought stricken southern plains region of the United states which had severe Dust storms in the 1930s during a drought. -

The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) was founded on October 5th, 1948. It was the first global environmental union. -

This book pointed out the harmful effects of pesticides in the environment, those of which many people weren't aware of at the time. -
Santa Barbara Oil Spill
A ten day period beginning january 28th left Santa Barbara county traumatized as there was a massive blowout of Union Oils Platform A which spilled crude oil into the water resulting in a tar mess that killed upward of 10000 Birds and suffocated marine life. The impact this had was more awareness of environmental issues and in the following year the first earth day was held. -

In 1970 a United states senator from wisconsin held a national demonstration to showcase environmental issues Its impact was a holiday that is still held every year and much raised awareness about environmental issues -
Gaia Hypothesis
Created by James Lovelock, the Gaia Hypothesis states that living organisms interact with their non-living surroundings to form a self-sustainable and synergistic system to thrive on Earth. -
The Appiko Movement
The Appiko movement is a movement in india where they are trying to keep trees alive and reduce deforestation as much as they can it is a massive movement that has left indias forests so much more full because of the reduction in deforestation and logging. This movement is still going on now and has had so many environmental impacts. -
Bhopal Chemical Disaster
In December of 1984 there were about 45 tons of toxic gas that were accidentally released from the union carbide Pesticide plant in Bhopal, India. This Resulted in thousands of deaths and widespread illness and pollution lasting decades the hardest areas that were and continue to be hit are the slums adjacent to the plant. -
Chernobyl
A catastrophe where a reactor at the Chernobyl power plant malfunctioned and exploded, releasing massive amounts of radiation into the environment. -
The Kyoto Protocol
This protocol operationalized the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change which persuaded countries to limit their emission of greenhouse gasses. Now these countries are to monitor and record their own individual mitigation. -
Documentary film An Inconvenient Truth released
Al Gore's documentary on his perspective of Global Warming which changed many people's views of the current state of the world. Gore won two awards for this documentary. -
Deepwater Horizon Oil spill
The deepwater horizon Oil spill is the largest spill of oil in the history of marine oil drilling operations. It covered about 1300 miles of the United states gulf coast covered in oil it killed an estimated 800000 birds and 65000 turtles. It completely changed how people thought about oil drilling in the ocean and left mass devestation in the gulf of mexico. It raised the awareness of aquatic life greatly and helped people understand how to help. -
Fukushima
Fukushima was a massive devastation in which a magnitude 9 earthquake caused a tsunami to be formed at japan which set off a nuclear power plant to go into a meltdown and ended up blowing up making the whole city radioactive and causing mass disaster.
