Mach1

Ernst Waldfreid Josef Wenzel Mach

  • Birth

Ernst Mach was born in Moravia.
  • Proposed Doppler Theory

    Proposed Doppler Theory
Mach created a device that would be able to demonstrate Christian Doppler's effect was in fact true. The device was created with a long tube that had a whistle at the end. If one would be near the axis of rotation, one could not hear any sound, but if one was in the rotation plane one could hear different pitches according to the speed of the rotating tube. This device was able to track the light of stars to track their movements to understand their positioning.
  • Mach Bands

    Mach Bands
An optical illusion discovered by Ernst Mach. Using lateral inhibition which detects the edge of an object. Well that our senses process information before sending it to the brain.
  • Spectrum

    Spectrum
His greatest feature was the study of the relations of human sensations to time, space, light, sound, color and external stimuli. He created an instrument that allowed him to measure the speed of sound. This experiment led to give truth to the Doppler Effect and helped to give an understanding of a stars’ spectrum and figure out its distance from us.
  • Mach's Principal

    Mach's Principal
In Mach's book titled "The Science of Mechanics." he explains how the inertia of an object is relative to the forces of other bodies in the universe causing a centrifugal force. How this relates to how stars are not fixed in the sky but rather are moving. That all masses in the universe are somehow connected. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPEwkMHRjZU
  • Shockwaves Do Exist

    Shockwaves Do Exist
Mach took the first photographs of shockwaves using a device he created called the Shadowgraph. He presented photos to the Vienna Council of a bullet moving at super sonic speeds.
  • Legacy Continues On

    Legacy Continues On
“Just before you break through the sound barrier, the cockpit shakes the most.”
-Chuck Yeager- 1st pilot to fly faster than Mach 1- the speed of sound His research on shock waves and electromagnetic forces definitely made waves as he was the first to study super-sonic motion. Ernst Waldfreid Josef Wenzel Mach is one of the greats as he is known as the founder of “The Philosophy of Science.”
