One of his major discoveries in this area were called Mach Bands, Which is the tendency of the human eye to see bright or dark bands near the boundaries between areas of sharply differing illumination.

    Mach One
    Mach became a professor in Prague in 1867, remaining there for 28 years. there he furthered his research in Physiological Phenomenons studying kinesthetic sensations. He developed a optical and photographic techniques for the measurement of sound waves and wave propagation. in 1887, he established principles of supersonic and the mach number, the ration of the velocity of an object to the velocity of sound.

    Knowledge and sensations
    Another concept mach advanced was that all knowledge is derived from sensation. He believed that a phenomena under scientific investigation can only be understood only in terms of experiences, or "sensations", that are present in the observation of the phenomena. This view led to the position that no statement in natural science is admissible unless it is empirically verifiable. This helped prepare the way for Eisenstein relative theory.

    Machs Principle
    Years after mach died, his work on inertia was not given up. Through out his later years Ernst Mach's theory on inertia was picked up by none other than Albert Einstein. Einstein devised a general theory of relativity based on Mach's principle on inertia which was: inertia is not a property instrict to an object but depends upon all the mass in the universe.this principle was eventually coined "Mach's Principle" by Albert Einstein.
