    Mach Bands
Mach published "On the effect of the spatial distribution of the light stimulus on the retina" in 1865 which created a strong argument that that perception is made by deciphering and understanding the relation between stimuli. This argument Mach claims, is what drives evolution and ultimately, science.

  • Mach Number

    Mach Number
In 1885, Mach devised an equation that is now known as the Mach Number when studying supersonic speed. Mach Number is the ratio of the speed of the object to the speed of sound in the given medium that is being study. This number is still actively used today in aerodynamic studies.

    Analysis of Sensation
“Analysis of Sensation” by Ernst Mach and Andrew Pyle was published in 1886 and brought the basis of the Gestalt Theory. Mach’s theory on perception is defined as always constructed from a rational experience that was cognitively preformed.

    The Science of Mechanics
In 1893, "The Science of Mechanics: A Critical and Historic Account" by Ernst Mach was published as a historic and philosophical book that gave birth to the ideological principle known as "Mach's Principle".
