    Ernest Nagel was born on November 16, 1901 in bohemia. He moved to the United states when he was ten and became a citizen when in 1919. Nagel was a Philosophy major and recieved his bachelors in 1923, masters in 1925 and his PH.D in 1931 (Suppes 470).     Ernest Nagel was a faculty member at the University of Columbia. Nagel received many academic honors such as being a Guggenheim fellow from 1934-1935 and again in 1950-1951, elected to the American Academy of Arts and Science in 1954, and to the American Philosophical Society in 1962, and the National Academy of Sciences in 1977 (Suppes 470).

    Ernest Nagel shaped the many intellectuals at the University of Columbia during his tenure there. He wrote publications for "The Parisian" and "The Nation". Nagel covered a wide swath of topics including but not limited to the following; "Causality, Explanations and Laws", "The Structure of Science", "Problems in the Logic of Scientific Explanation", "Foundations of Measurment", "Foundations of Geometry", and "Foundations of Physics" to name a few (Suppes 472)
