Ernest Nagel
Ernest Nagel was born in Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Slovakia on November 16 1901. His family moved to The United States when Ernest was 10 years old. He obtains his American citizenship in 1919. Later in his life, he became a teacher at Columbia University.

Academic Achievements
Ernest Nagel was a philosopher and a University Professor Emeritus at Columbia University. Nagel received a B. S. 1923 from City College and an M. A. 1925 and Ph. D. 1930 from Columbia. First appointed to Columbia's faculty in 1930 Nagel became John Dewey Professor of Philosophy in 1955 and University Professor in 1967.

The Structure of Science
Nagel published The Structure of Science, considered one of the best works on the philosophy of science. In this book, he analyzes the nature of explanation, the logic of scientific inquiry, and the logical structure of the organization of scientific knowledge.

Professor at Columbia University
In 1967, Nagel becomes a professor at Columbia Univerity, and in 1970 he achieves Professor Emeritus at the same institution. After publishing The Structure of Science, Nagel kept his work at the university all the way until 1973 when it was his last lecture at Columbia University.

Last days
Ernest Nagel died on September 22nd, 1985. He had two kids, Alexander Nagel and Sidney Nagel
