  • Ernest Nagel

    Ernest Nagel was born on November 16th, 1901 in Bohemia. Nagel came to the United States at the age of ten years old. he did not earn his citizenship until 1919. Going into higher education Nagel earned his Bachelor's Degree in science in 1923 at the college of the City of New York, In 1925 at Columbia University Nagle earned his Masters's Degree and P.h.D in Philosophy and started his career by teaching at Columbia from 1931 to 1970.
  • Career

    From 1931 to 1970 at the University of Columbia Nagel was on the faculty. He also taught at Rockefeller University from 1967 to 1970. After his retirement, he continued to help with intellectual affairs to include teaching. In 1962 Nagel was elected to the American Philosophy Society. In 1977 Nagel was also elected to the National Academy of Science.

    Ernest Nagel married Edith Alexandria Haggstrom on January 20th, 1935. Together they had two sons Alexander Joseph who is a professor of Mathematics, and Sidney Robert who is a professor at the University of Chicago in Physics. Nagels wife Edith died in 1988

    Throughout his career, Ernest Nagel had many Contributions to the Science of Philosophy. What Nagel is most known for Is his Teachings for over Forty years at the Columbia University and New York. To the students, he was the bridge from then to what Philosophy could offer to the analyst of the scientific method.
