Harry (age 11) is adjusting to new social and academic demands at his school, Hogwarts. In Erikson's fourth stage, success for Harry would be defined as feeling competent with schoolwork and social interactions. Failure in this stage would result in Harry feeling secondary to his peers. On Halloween in 1991, Harry came to the aid of his friend, Hermione, and incapacitated a troll in order to save her. He was recognized for this act in front of his peers and his friendships were strengthened. -
Just Like Your Father: Identity vs. Role Confusion
Harry, at age 15, has long since entered Erikson's fifth stage.In order to successfully complete this stage, Harry must define his own sense of self. At this time, Harry is often compared to his late father. Harry feels both comforted and fretful over this, because his father had both good and bad traits. Harry ultimately stays true to his own personal choices, not swayed by what others think he should be, and opting not to limit his potential based on the choices made by his father. -
That Potter Kid: Generativity vs. Stagnation
Harry, now age 37, is dropping his son, Albus, off for his first day at Hogwarts. In this stage of Erkison's timeline, Harry is making an impact on the world by being productive at work, and producing children. He has a successful career as an "auror", and three children with his wife Ginny. If Harry had not been successful in this stage, he would be less involved with his environment and would not feel productive.
