Erikson Timeline (Ally Gibson)

  • Industry Vs. Inferiority

    Industry Vs. Inferiority
    Ally is 9 years old and enters the school spelling bee. She does really good in the spelling bee and wins. She then has to write a story for a school assignment. She writes about her family and their Christmas together. She feels confident about her book and receives an A. In Erikson's fourth stage, industry versus inferiority, the crisis is for Ally to develop confidence in her abilities she is proficient in or to have the feeling of inferiority when she is not proficient in an ability.
  • Identity Vs. Role Confusion

    Identity Vs. Role Confusion
    Ally (15 years old) has met a few kids in her art class. She typically hangs out with the her friends from middle school but they are all taking soccer and Ally just isn't good at sports. At lunch she sits with the kids from art class. This is Erikson's fifth stage, identity vs confusion, the crisis is the success in forming an identity will lead to a virtue of fidelity and being unsuccessful will cause role confusion which will lead to her being unsure of herself and her place in her society.
  • Intimacy Vs. Isolation

    Intimacy Vs. Isolation
    Ally (21 years old) is in college and has a fiancé for about 2 years. She really wants to create a life together were their identities can be joined. She is really hoping that they can get married soon. This is Erikson's sixth stage, intimacy versus isolation. The crisis is that Ally will be successful at creating a long term relationship resulting in love or her outcome can be loneliness and isolation.
