    James at age 21 is discovering that in leaving the comfort of the relationships he has developed as a child is much harder than he had first thought. and the prospect of new and more intimate relationships is beginning to become much more appealing to him. Intimacy versus isolation is the sixth stage of Erik Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development. The major conflict of this stage centers on forming intimate, loving relationships with other people.

    At the age of 81 James is able to look back and contemplate the course of his life accomplishments and decisions and not despair because he was able to create the life he had intended. Ego integrity versus despair is the eighth stage of Erik Erikson’s stage theory of psychosocial development. This is the stage after the age of 65 we look back and decide whether we lead a successful life or not.
