Abigail Discovers her Love for Art: Industry v. Inferiority
At age 10, Abigail wins her class's art contest with a painting of her dog. Her teacher and classmates applaud her work and shower her with compliments about her artistic abilities. Erikson's 4th stage takes place from ages 6 - 12. Learning new skills is very important during this stage and receiving too much criticism and not enough praise can cause feelings of not being good enough. -
First Day at College: Identity v. Confusion
Abigail is now 18 and moving into her dorm at college after graduating high school. She is nervous but excited to find out who she is away from her family. Erikson's 5th stage is from ages 12 - 20. During this time, people need to explore and experiment. They also need to resolve any conflict or they may face confusion in the future. -
A Wedding to Plan: Intimacy v. Isolation
Abigail is 24, and her partner just proposed. She accepted immediately and is excited to start planning their wedding and future together. Creating close relationships during Erikson's 6th stage is important so that people do not face feelings of loneliness.
