Erikson Timeline : Molly's Life

  • Period: to

    Molly's Development Stages

  • Molly's Infancy: Stage #1 Basic Trust vs Mistrust

Molly's Infancy: Stage #1 Basic Trust vs Mistrust
Molly had a fever at 18 months old and her mom took care of her and made her feel safe and comforted. Molly then gained trust for her mom. Erikson's 1st stage is Basic Trust vs Mistrust, this happens during infancy 1-2 years old. During this time of a persons life they either feel safe and learn to trust their mother/person, or if they experience fear they'll have doubt and mistrust.
  • Puberty: Stage #5 Identity vs Role Confusion

Puberty: Stage #5 Identity vs Role Confusion
Molly at 14 wore a shirt for her favorite rock band and her parents yelled at her and told her she wasn't allowed to wear it. She wasn't allowed to express her identity and had to conform to her parents views. This led to her having an identity crisis. The term coined by Eric Erikson. Molly falls under Erikson's stage #5 Identity vs Role Confusion (ages 13-19). If parents don't let their kids explore themselves they won't find identity, but rather role confusion like Molly in this situation.
  • Molly and Tim's Marriage: Stage #6 Intimacy vs Isolation

Molly and Tim's Marriage: Stage #6 Intimacy vs Isolation
After Molly found her identity in her early 20's she met Tim who was compatible with her. At 28 her and Tim solidified their relationship by getting married. An act of intimacy. Erikson's stage #6 Intimacy vs Isolation (ages 20-40), is where Molly is now. According to Erikson, if we don't find intimacy in partners or friendships during this time we will feel isolation. Therefore the crisis is whether to create intimacy with someone or be by themselves in isolation.
