    Emily(age 3) loves the delicious taste of oranges, but she sometimes needs help peeling the skin off. On this particular day, as her mother sat closely watching, Emily was able to peel the entire orange on her own. Being able to accomplish this important task bought happiness to Emily! In Erikson's second stage Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt, the crisis is between a child being able to explore and learn to do new things alone or receive continuous support and/or criticized by his or her parents.

    Both of Emily's parents are teachers and they want Emily to follow in the same career path as they did. Emily is really passionate about music and wants to be a musician but she she is scared to tell her parent because she doesn't know if they will support her decision. In Erikson's fifth stage Identity vs. Role Confusion the crisis lies between adolescents searching for personal identity and the need to comply with what society wants for them.

    Emily(age 40) has been a musician with a band for many years. Every musical performance Emily does she saves a portion of her money to start a nonprofit performances art studio for under privilege children in her community. Emily's goal is to raise at least $20,000 for the cause, as of right now she only has $12,000. In Erikson's seventh stage of Generativity vs Stagnation the crisis is between achieving objectives and being unproductive.
