Infancy: Trust Vs. Mistrust
Ella felt ignored as an infant as she cries while her mother was out drinking over the fact that the father left her for someone else. She was an only child so she was left alone for a length of time or was locked in her room to cry. Not receiving the care she deserves, Ella gradually learns to mistrust her mother and others as she continues to doubt that anything good will ever happen to her. -
Early Adulthood: Intimacy Vs. Isolation
With Ella's struggle with the "Trust versus Mistrust" crisis of her infancy, she is having difficulty opening up to people. Therefore, with the new crisis of "Intimacy versus Isolation" that comes with early adulthood, Ella isolates herself and does not commit herself to an intimate relationship. -
Late Adulthood: Ego Integrity Vs. Despair
Isolated and alone, Ella is by herself. Looking back at how her life played out, she is not happy. Therefore, within the “Ego Integrity versus Despair” crisis of late adulthood, she is left in despair as she regrets not having done much or being outgoing and enjoying life the way she would’ve wanted to.
