Steve and Caregiver Bond
Steve's Mother breastfeeds Steve until he is one years old. Steve relies on his Mother to be able to feed and care for him. During this time, Steve builds a bond with his Mother because she is able to trust her. In stage one of Erikson's eight stages of psycho development trust versus mistrust, the crisis is between the infant being able to deem their caregiver trustworthy for taking care of them (feeding) or by not trusting them by being starved or by being poorly treated (mistrust) -
Steve Falls Behind in School
Steve's teacher told him that he needs to learn his multiplication tables because he is falling behind in school. Steve struggles with paying attention during class. Steve starts to feel like a failure and a sense of incompetence takes over him. In Erikson's fourth stage industry vs. inferiority, the crisis is that the child must go with the demands of learning new skills in school (industry) or else the child will gain a sense of feeling like a failure or inferiority. -
Robert and His First Love
Robert met his first girlfriend at the age of nineteen right after high school. The pair grew very close and were together 24/7 for five years until finally getting married and having children. In Erikson's sixth stage of psycho development, Robert must develop an intimate relationship(s) or will feel a sense of isolation. The crisis is being able to be close to others (intimacy) or secluding by themselves. (isolation)
