Initiative vs. Guilt
Little Amanda was 4 years old when her parents would take her to the park to play with kids. They took her to play dates where she played with friends. Family night was spent doing things together and talking about the day.
This phase takes place between 3 to 5 years it is important for kids to be encouraged to socialize and play with others. Kids take initiative by socializing and playing with others, and guilt can develop if failing to do the task is followed by parent's irritation. -
Identity Vs. role confusion
Amanda was 19 when she had to choose major. She started listening to rock music which impacted her appearance. In this stage, it is important to find identity by exploring, parent's support is what matters. If they don't allow kids to explore children can get confused with their own identity. We can notice this in Erikson's life, since his mom remarried he felt like he didn't fit into German or Jewish culture; the career he chose was not the one he wanted to do later in life. -
Intimacy vs. isolation
At the age of 26 Amanda married her boyfriend David. They were in a long-term relationship and very happy to join their lives in matrimony. Erik also married his wife at the age of 28. During this phase, it is important to be capable of forming long-lasting and stable friendships and intimate relationships, if successful people feel loved and cared about, if not successful people can feel lonely and left out.
