Trust versus Mistrust
Kyra, age 2, loves spending time with her mother. Whenever Zara, the babysitter, arrives to watch the kids, Kyra cries and cries when her mother leaves. However, once Kyra remembers Zara, she has a lot of fun. -
Autonomy versus Mistrust
At preschool, Kyra, now age three, loves playing with the older girls. She begs her mom to do her hair like they do, and to dress like the older girls do. Her mom obeys. A while later, when Kyra turns four, she starts to dress how she likes to, and stops copying the older girls. -
Initiative versus Guilt
Kyra loves Kindergarten, however she is uncomfortable asking other kids how to play with her during play time. She hasn't worked up the courage to ask the other kids to play, but is always sad when she plays alone. -
Industry versus Inferiority
Kyra doesn't like math. She is learning her times tables in the third grade, and she does not enjoy it. When she complains to her mom, she says that there is nothing that she can do about it, and that her only option is to learn the math, and follow class rules. -
Identity versus Identity Confusion
Kyra changes her favorite color weekly. Her friend groups are all very different. She loves PE one day and she loves art the next. Kyra wants to join an after school club, but can't decide what subject she wants to join.
