  • Trust vs. Mistrust

When Timothy was 3 months old, his parents repeatedly neglected to feed him, causing him to become mistrustful. At this stage, the crisis faced is if the individual can trust those around them. Success in this stage means that they will be able to trust others and feel safe in their environment. If they fail, then they will find it hard to trust others and will be fearful.
  • Identity vs Identity Confusion

An 18-year-old Timothy had just graduated from high school. He didn't know what he wanted to do in life, so he began to research different occupations he thought he was interested in. In this stage, the crisis we face is to discover who we are and how we want to fit into society. If the stage is successfully completed, the individual will have a strong sense of self and will know what they want. If it is failed, they will be less confident in themselves and will have commitment issues.
  • Generativity vs. Stagnation

At 54 years old, Timothy decided to quit his job in accounting to become a college professor and teach his skills to a younger generation. The crisis of this stage is whether to help the next generation succeed or to focus on one's own accomplishments. Passing this stage results in the feeling of contributing to society. With stagnation, individuals will feel disconnected from the rest of the world
