Erikson's 2nd Stage: Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt
Sage (age 3) likes to twist the cap on and off plastic water bottles. She wants to open the plastic water bottles and drink from it herself, but her mother won't allow her to do it independently. Sage's crisis is between opening the plastic water bottle and drinking out of it independently and her mother telling her no and doing it for her, which leaves Sage to feel doubtful of her capabilities. -
Erikson's 4th Stage: Industry vs Inferiority
Sage (age 10) was told by one of her classmates that she isn't good at math because she was having a difficult time completing her multiplication tables. Sage's crisis is between feeling a sense of inferiority and insecurity because she was told she wasn't smart and feeling industry and confidence if her classmate had tried to help her complete the table or said something more positive. -
Erikson's 6th Stage:
Sage (age 18) just moved to a new city for college. She isn't familiar with the area and she doesn't know anyone on her college campus. Her first day she meets a girl in her psychology class who she quickly develops a close friendship with during the first semester. Sage's crisis is between knowing no one and feeling lonely and developing a close meaningful friendship with someone on campus.
