Trust vs. mistrust
Ms Lucy was born on March 2, 1936 to immigrant farmers. She was third in a family of 6 children. Born in a marriage of convenience and deeply religious structure Ms. Lucy learned a mirage of mistrust during infancy. With cold parenting and the product of unwanted pregnancy she was often left to cry alone. Although physical needs were met mistrust was the predominant outlook for her. -
Intimacy vs Isolation
Entering adulthood prematurely because she was abandoned at 14, Ms Lucy began dating early. Due to an extreme religious upbringing and fear of becoming "an old maid" Ms Lucy felt it was necessary to marry quickly. When volunteering in a shelter, Ms Lucy met Wes and within a year they were married. She was 23, he was 24. -
Ego-integrity vs Dispair
At 88, Ms Lucy is facing poor memory and possible dementia. Even though she had a cold childhood and a difficult marriage, Ms Lucy looks back on her life with satisfaction. She believes that she was faithful to the religious beliefs that she held her entire life and she admires her uprightness through diverse tribulations.
