Hernando at stage two of Erikson's Timeline.
Hernando is a two year old who was born with no toes. He never understood why his mother never let him run around without shoes in front of other people. He didn't see himself as different, even when his mother did. Erikson's stage two is when a child distinguishes himself from others. They should be able to make some choices independently to build self confidence. When a child is punished too harshly or overly restrained, self doubt and shame start to develop within the child.
