Erikson (Psychosocial Theory) Timeline

  • Daycare Tribulations

    Daycare Tribulations
Jordan (3 years old) is in day care full time and mom usually picks her clothes for each day. Jordan didn't like what her mother chose so her mother decided to let her go ahead and pick out an outfit and allowed her to wear it to daycare. Some of the other kids made fun of Jordan's mismatched socks. In Erikson's second stage, Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt, the crisis is between gaining independence or a sense of personal control and becoming ashamed or doubting their choices.
  • Second Grade

    Second Grade
Jordan (8 years old) came home from school excited to share her good grade on her assignment but mom was busy so she told Jordan to go get her play clothes on. In Erikson's fourth stage, Industry vs. Inferiority, the crisis is between being confident or having self-esteem issues.
  • College

    College
Jordan (22 years old) is a sophomore in college and has found a group of friends she spends her spare time with, can depend on when she's struggling and spends time studying with at the library. In Erikson's sixth stage, Intimacy vs. Isolation, young adults will build fulfilling relationships or are unable to do so, causing isolation.
