Initiative vs Guilt
Alex (age 5) goes out to the garden to pick flowers for his mom because he wants to show his mom how much he loves her.
The crisis here is that he was not supposed to pick the flowers from the garden, him then feeling guilty for picking them. Children at this age have a sense of guilt when they take initiative and are punished for it. This is stage three. -
Identity vs Role Confusion
Ellen (age 19) is emerging into adulthood and is self-conscience about her choices. In stage five, many young adults are making choices that outline their futures. From jobs to their own health. The crisis can be ones own health from stress of the future. -
Intimacy vs Isolation
Maddie (age 26) is taking the next step in her relationship and is moving into her boyfriends apartment. The crisis here is that, after Maddie has found her sense of self she is worried about the relationship not progressing like she thought it would, causing her to isolate her self from others and furthering relationships with her boyfriend and others. -
Ego Integrity vs Despair
Betty (age 80) is transitioning to living on her own to living in her daughters house. The crisis here is the letting go of majority of your independence as you get older and need help doing more and more of the daily activities of living. The older some people get the more they look back on things and living in their stories.
