Trust vs. Mistrust
Janine was a new born baby, and looks towards the care from her parents. In Erickson's first stage, trust vs. mistrust, the crisis is between the parent's ability to take care of their baby and help their baby gained a sense of trust towards them. -
Initiative vs. Guilt
Janine is now 5 years old and is learning how to do things on her own such as cleaning up her mess or other things around the house. In Erickson's third stage, initiative vs. guilt, the crisis is between the children's capacity to assert their power and be able to complete their tasks alone. -
Identity vs. Role Confusion
Janine, who is now 15 years old, is exploring what she wants to be and her goals for the future. Her parents wants her to be a doctor but Janine doesn't know if she wants to be a doctor or something else. In Erickson's fifth stage, identity vs. role confusion, the crisis is between their own desire and the parent's expectations.
