Jameson's Lifetime
The lifetime of Jameson, as told through Erickson's Stages. -
Event 1: Autonomy vs Shame & Doubt (Stage 2)
Jameson (age 2) learns how to use the bathroom, just like his Mom and Dad, as he feels shame in having to use diapers when his parents do not have to. Jameson is in Erickson's 2nd stage, Autonomy vs Shame & Doubt. Stage 2 is when children focus on doing things "on their own" and learning to expand themselves, and if they do not, they may eventually learn both shame and doubt from this occurance. -
Event 2: Identity vs Confusion (Stage 5)
Jameson is now 17, and he feels the need to be true to himself. Jameson comes out as a gay male, decides he will no longer attend church with his parents, and he also stops including them in his major life decisions. Jameson is in Erickson's 5th stage, Identity vs Confusion. In this stage, adolescents need to learn to separate themselves, and assume their own identity separate from others and how they define themselves socially. -
Event 3: Intimacy vs Isolation (Stage 6)
Jameson (37) gets married to the love of his life and longtime partner, Parker. With gay marriage now legal in New York, Jameson and Parker decide to finally tie the knot and stay together for the rest of their lives. Jameson is in Erickson's 6th stage, Intimacy vs Isolation. This stage includes the decision between letting oneself become intimate with others or deciding to stay in an isolation.
