Anna (6 months) is dependent on her parents for her care and safety. Anna’s parents responds promptly to her needs when she cries.
In Erickson’s first stage, trust versus mistrust,
the crisis is if Anna’s parents neglect her and only provide care for her at times. Anna may feel insecure and not rely on her parents as much to meet her need. -
Autonomy versus shame and guilt

Anna (2) is gaining encouragement from her parents to do tasks by herself. Anna is able to pick out what kind of clothes she wants to wear independently.
In Erickson’s second stage, autonomy versus shame and doubt,
the crisis is if Anna feel discouraged by her parents to learn and do basic tasks. Anna’s parents needs to give constant reassurance so that she will be successful in doing small tasks independently. -
Initiative versus guilt

Anna (5) initiated with her peers to play house. This activity helps her with be assertive and improves her interpersonal skills with her classmates. Anna feels secure with her ability to initiate and make decisions for herself.
In Erickson’s third stage, initiative versus guilt,
the crisis is being criticized by an adult. This will make Anna develop a sense of guilt and she’ll be a follower instead of a leader. The guilt inhibits her growth to think independently.
