First job at HP: Identity vs Role confusion
At the young age of just 13 steve jobs call Bill Hewlett and gets his first job at HP he begins to find his true identity in the tech world. Erikson's 5th The fifth stage of Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development is identity vs. role confusion, this period of time occurs between the ages of 12-18. During this stage, adolescents search for a sense of self and personal identity, through an intense exploration of personal values, beliefs, and goals. -
Apple is founded; Generativity vs stagnation
Steve Jobs and his business partners found apple computer inc. and begin growing and developing apple computers. Psychologically, generativity refers to "making your mark" on the world through creating or nurturing things that will outlast an individual. Jobs and his business partners were doing just this. Making a mark for future generations. Almost everyone is still using Apple products today. -
Steve gets sick; Ego integrity vs. despair
At age 56 Steve jobs unexpectedly announces his medical leave with no end date set. He doesn't keep quiet he is accepting of this and knows his legacy will continue for decades if he comes back or not. Ego integrity versus despair is the eighth and final stage of Erik Erikson’s stage theory of psychosocial development. It is during this time that we contemplate our accomplishments and can develop integrity if we see ourselves as leading a successful life. -
