Rebecca(17) broke her arm badly mountain biking, while in the ER she spoke with a few nurses and decided that she really liked the idea of helping people and decided to go to nursing school after she graduated. Being a healer really spoke to who she wanted to be.
If Rebecca had been unable to discover herself during this time period, she might have had a difficult time as an adult trying to find herself. -
Rebecca finds love: Intimacy Vs. Isolation
After a few failed relationships, Rebecca (27) decides to be single for a while and continue her education starting with a yoga teacher training. While there she meets a beautiful woman and they instantly fall in love and are married shortly thereafter.
Since Rebecca was able to find her true self during adolescence, she was ready for an intimate relationship as an adult. If shed been unable to find connection she may have felt lonely and isolated. -
Rebecca creates: Generativity Vs. Stagnation
Rebecca, now 55, just retired from nursing but still teaches yoga in the evenings. Her and her wife volunteer regularly at the animal shelter and bring home probably more dogs than they should.
Since Rebecca regularly engages in work she finds meaningful and productive she feels like she's contributing to society and is leaving her mark on the world. If she had been unable to do this she might feel stagnated and have no interest in self-improvement.
