The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie was killed by Gavrilo Princip, who was a terrorist from Serbia. He was the heir to the throne for Austria. This made Austria declare war on Serbia. This was the beginning of the events that lead to the war. -
Germans Fire
This is when the first gas was used in the war. Germany fired chlorine filled bullets at the Allied forces. It took a big hit on them, killing and injuring lots of there soldiers.

Germany Invaded Belgium
Germany wanted passage through Belgium for there troops to get France. So Germany invaded Belgium. This upseted Britain and made them declare war on Germany. -
The Lusitania Sinks
On this date a submarine German sunk a passenger ship with 1,198 passengers on it. 128 of those passengers were American. This up seted America a lot and made them join the war. -
Zimmerman Telegram
Germany sent a message to join the war in a code form. Mexico declined because they did not want to be in the war. This convinced the U.S to enter the war with Allied Powers

The United States enters the War
The united states declares war on Germany. The U.S is on France and Great Britain's side. America declared war on Germany because of Germany's attack on the Susses. And on all of the attacks on ships that entered there area. -
Selective Service Act
This act made any man 21-45, have to sign up for the war. Woodrow Wilson signed this Act because there was no other choice. There was not enough men signing up for the war.

Enlisting in the War - Frank Woodruff Buckles
Frank tried to enlist in the Navy in Oklahoma City, but had no luck. Then he enlisted in the Army which they accepted on August 14th, 1917. He was given tickets to Fort Logan, Colorado. This is where he got his serial number 15577. -
First Days in Service
Frank said his first days in service were very different. He said they would get there food from GI cans. They were usually beans and soup. He remembers how they were cooked over a fire. The coffee was cooked the same way and they would sleep in tents. -
Getting to War
The unit Frank went overseas with was called the First Fort Riley Casual Detachment. We sailed on the HMS Carpathia which was famous for the rescue of the titanic. He tired asking people on the boat about it but they were not allowed to talk about it. -
France
While Frank was in England he asked the commanding officer if he could be assigned to France but the officer said he could be. Finally frank got to go to France. After Armistice Day in France frank was assigned to escort prisoners of the war back to Germany. -
American First Army attacks St. Michiel Salient
300,000 American soldiers under the control of General John J. Pershing invaded German lines. This battle mark the use of the term “D-day”. This was the won of the biggest battle during WW1. -
Armistice Day
A document was signed on this date that ended the war. This day is celebrated every year for all the soldier who have fought in a war or have been in the Armed forces. -
Wichester
In Winchester Franks job was to drive. He said he drove motorcycle and a sidecar, then he got to drive a car. He was it was honor to ride in a car since most of the military walked. He also helped with official assignments and a hospital unit. -
Treaty of Versailles
The treaty of Versailles was the peace treaty that ended WW1. It ended the War between Germany and the allied powers. But Germany had to follow a lot rules from it. Which damaged them a lot
