Clean Water Act
The Act's main goal was to eliminate releases of toxic substances in water. Many philosophies in previous pollution control laws proved that water quality was the responsibility of the states. However, the federal government finally had to take control. -
Toxic Substance Control Act
The Toxic Substance Control Act granted the EPA authority to require reporting, record-keeping and testing requirements and resctircions on substances. Also, the TSCA addresses importation, production, use and disposal on certain chemicals. Food, drugs, cosmetics, and pesticides are excluded from the TSCA. -
National Energy Conservation Policy Act
The National Energy Conservation Policy Act of 1978 was a legislative response to the 1973 energy crisis. The act appointed the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to set Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS). The MEPS replaced standards set by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act in 1975.
