  • Congress Passes the Clean Air Act

    Congress Passes the Clean Air Act

  • Wilderness Act is Passed

    Wilderness Act is Passed
    This act is passed which sets aside 9.1 million acres to be preserved. Congress then added a national forest, and national park.   • Environmental Defense Fund is Founded

    Environmental Defense Fund is Founded
    This was founded by scientists who begin to ban the pesticide DDT. Yale Law grads seek to set up a law firm for the environment and collaborate with attorneys to fight for the environment.     North Carolina Protest

    Bhopal Chemical Explosion
    A Factory Gas explosion that took place on December 3rd. This incident was a result of an estimated 15,000-20,000 deaths. Unfortunately, this caused severe contamination of gas and affected water and soil quality. Presentation from Class

    Ogoni People protest for destruction of the Niger River

    Iron Eyes fights for justice for the Environment
    Iron Eyes was environmentally active from age 9 opposing uranium mines because it was harmful to the planet. In 2016 she was also against the Dakota Access Pipeline. She was able fight for what she believed in was best for the environment. Textbook (9)
