Delaney Clause of Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act
The FDA can ban food additives that are found to either cause or indicate cancer in humans or animals. This is a federal Ammendment in the United States and is banned if its over 1/1,000,000. -
Clean Air Act (US)
The United States primary federal air quality law. It aims to reduce and control air pollution nationwide by prohibiting ozone depleting substances from being put into our atmosphere. -
Clean Water Act (US)
A primary federal law that establishes the basic structure of pollutants in water and regulates the quality standards for surface water. Its objective is to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of water. -
Endangered Species Act (US)
Its the primary law of the United States that provides a framework of protecting endangered and threatened species. They designate critical habitat and avoid destroying it. -
Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (INT)
CITES in an international agreement designed to protect endangered plants and animals. It moniters and protects them from threats of international trade. -
Safe Drinking Water Act (US)
SDWA established they would protect the quality of drinking water in the United States. This forces water to be cleaned before entering the surface weather if the water comes from underground or the surface. -
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
It gives the EPA the authority to control hazardous waste from the beginning to the end. This includes the generation, storage, transportation, treatment and disposal. -
Comprehnsive Environmental Response, Compensation, Liability Act (US)
CERCLA also known as superfund authorizes the president to act on hazardous substances in the environment. They enforce the clean up of hazardous spills in our ground and they find who is responsible. -
Montreal Protocol (INT)
An international agreement designed to ptotect the ozone layer. It would phase out the production and consumption of hazardous ozone depleting substances. -
Kyoto Protocol (INT)
An international treaty targeted to reduce emissions from 37 countries. Its the only leaglly binding contract to reduce greenhouse gases. This only covers about 18% of all global emissions.
