Enlightenment and French Revolution

  • May 5th, 1789 Meeting With Estates General

    This meeting was basically the beginning of the French Revolution. The meeting was called by King Louis XVI to tell everybody about the country's financial and societal crises.
  • June 20th, 1789 Tennis Court Oath

    The men at this oath swore to never stop a meeting until a constitution had been established. They basically said nobody could separate until they established a constitution.
  • July 14th, 1789 Storming of the Bastille

    Revolutionary Insurgents attempted to storm a medieval armory. After about 4 hours and 94 deaths the Insurgents successfully entered the Bastille.
  • August 26th, 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man

    The Declaration of the Rights of Man is a preamble and has 17 articles. It recognizes freedom and the justice system.
  • October 5th, 1789 Women's March on Versailles

    They pressed their demands upon the king, the next day they forced the king and his family to return with them to France.

    A period during the French Revolution following the creation of the First Republic.Massacres and numerous public executions took place.
  • January 21st, 1793 Execution of King Louie XVI

    On this date King Louie XVI was publicly executed by guillotine. This all took place during the French Revolution.
  • July 28th, 1794 Maximillian Robespierre's execution

    Maximilian Robespierre got executed on this date by guillotine at Place de la Revolution in Paris.
  • December 2nd, 1804 Napoleon crowns himself as Emperor

    This date is where Napoleon became Emperor. He supposedly snatched the crown from the Pope and crowned himself.
  • March 21st, 1804 establishment of the Napoleonic Code

    The Napoleonic Code was established on this date. It was the main influence of the 19th century civil codes.

    conflict fought in the Iberian Peninsula by Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom against the invading and occupying forces of the First French Empire during the Napoleonic Wars. In Spain, it is considered to overlap with the Spanish War of Independence.
  • June 24th 1812 Napoleons March on Russia

    Napoleon and his army crossed the Neman RIver and invaded river on this date. The Russian army refused to engage in battle because of how big Napoleons army was.
  • April 11th, 1814 Napoleon is exiled to Elba

    They exiled Napoleon after the Treaty of Fontainebleau.
  • May 5th, 1821 Napoleon Dies

    Napoleon Dies of stomach cancer at the age of 51. He dies at Saint Helena in Longwood.
