Moved to England
Emma Watson lived in Paris France, for 5 years of her life. However, at the age of 5, her parents got divorced, so Emma moved to Oxfordshire in England, with her mother and younger brother where she was raised. She attended a school called Dragon School in Oxford. It was there that Emma, aged six, decided that she wanted to be an actress. -
The Start of her Acting Career
When Emma Watson was 6 years old she began to take classes at a theatre school called Stagecoach Theater Arts School which was situated in Oxford. At this school, she learnt how to sing, dance, and perform. Emma Watson took part in many different school plays including Arthur: The Young Years, The Happy Prince, and Alice in Wonderland. When Emma was 7 years old she also participated in a poetry competition where she won first prize for performing the poem "The Sea" by James Reeves. -
Role in Harry Potter
Emma Watson received her first professional acting role in the movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone when she was just 9 years old. She auditioned 8 times and impressed the casting crew leading to her being picked for her role as Hermione Granger. This is the role that gave Emma Watson fame and made her known all around the world. Emma Watson continued to star in her role as Hermione Granger for the remaining 7 movies of the Harry Potter franchise, ending when she was 21 years old. -
Education while acting
Whilst acting Emma Watson still continued with her education. She would have 5 hours of tutoring every day and in the end, did high school equivalency exams. After school, Emma Watson continued her studies and was accepted into the Ivy League university called Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island, where she studied English Literature. She spent some time at the University of Oxford but ended up graduating from Brown University with an English Literature degree on the 25th of May, 2014. -
Fashion
As well as acting Emma Watson also loved fashion and began to do modelling. She first worked with a fashion company that advocates for fair trade called People Tree. From there she became bigger in the modelling world and modelled for both Burberry's Autumn/Winter collection and their Spring/Summer collection. Emma then modelled for Vogue in 2011 and starred in a Lancôme perfume commercial later that same year. -
Goodwill Ambassador
Emma Watson is also a humanitarian, she is an advocate for both gender equality and women's rights. She worked with organisations located in rural Africa that help girls go to school by providing them with uniforms and the necessary school supplies. Emma is also an ambassador for the HeForShe campaign which aims to achieve gender equality. Because of her dedication and efforts to empower young women, Emma was announced as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. -
Other movies
After Emma's role in Harry Potter, she continued to act in multiple other films. Some of these films were The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, The Colony or Colonia, and lastly, The Circle. However, her next blockbuster movie was the live-action Beauty and the Beast film which was released in 2017, in this movie Emma Watson played Belle. For Beauty and the Beast, Emma Watson won the MTV Movie & TV Awards first gender-neutral best actor in a movie award. -
