Emily and her sisters Maria, Elizabeth, and Charlotte attend the Clergy Daughters' School at Cowan Bridge. It was a charity school for the daughters of clergymen who were poor and had nowhere else to go. -

In, 1841 Emily went with her suster Charlotte at Pensionnat Heger in Brussels to study different languages. -
