korea is seperated exactly at teh 38 degree of latitude. north and south korea dont like this. north korea was ruled by the soviut union and south korea was ruled by the united states. north korean troops started advancing untill united nations steped in and stoped tehm along the pusan perimeter. -

by 1953 both the united states and the soviut union had hydrogen bombs both sides were trying to top each other and this was called a "ballence of terror" and the entire world was living in constant fear or a all out necular war. -

the soviet union Responded by starting its own military alliance known as the Warsaw Pact
the warsaw pact incuded the united states and seven satellites in Eastern Europe.
this divided Europe in to eastern and western Europe.
in the east it was soviet domination and the cuntries were communistin the name of a dictatorship. but in the west is they were democracies led by the united states. -

the great leap forward failed and the commodes were a horrible idea between 1959 and 1961 about 55 million chinese were though to die from starvation -

casrto led the guerrilla army to victory and was set on transforming the contry this was known as the cuban revolution
casrto nationalized business, put most land under government controle, severly restriced cubans political freedoms.
if anyone didnot like these new rles they woul be put in jail, or killed. hundreds od cubansoved to florida to get away from the rules. -

in 1951 dalai lama (tibets most reserved revigous leader) was fprced to flee to the country becase the communists had conqured tibet.

korean conflict
like germany korea develpoed seperataly. north korea was communits and south korea was a capotal.
after the war south korea started rebuilding its economy. students had better grades and tehre were more middle class citizens.
but for south korea the economy got a lot slower. even after the soviers and chinese under took economic reforms in the late 1980 north korea clung to hard line communism. -
Berlin Wall
the berlin wall was built in 1961
this was a massive concrete barrier with borbed wire on the top and patroled with gaurded. this wall split the city in two parts.
the eastern cominists and the western democratics. the east germans were verry unhappy with being comminist so they would do anything to get to the west. meny died doing this. but the west berlins always welomed them. -
cuban missile crisis
in 1962 cuba recived nucilar missiles from the soviet union.
the president responed my putting up naional blocks so that the soviut union could not diliver anymore nucilar weppons.
president kennedy demanded that cuba remove the missiles that the soviets gave them. finaly the soviuets agreed to remove the missisles. -
vietnam conflict
the us president had reported attackes to congress about the vietnam war. beliveing that the atttackes had been unprovoked congress passed the gulf of tonkin resoution on august 7th 1964.thsi proved taht the president took all nessicary action to prevent further conflict., after the resolution passed the us started bombing targets in north veiteam. evenchally more than 500,000 american troops were commited to that war.at the same time the soviut union and china sent aide to north vietnam. -

mao's next idea was the eultutal revolution. he earged teenagers to get onvolved and see a revolution as his generation did everyone was carrying one o his little red bookd. these books were soon studied by al the chinese students adn it was known as the laws of china. this book also became a big part of chinas civil war -

soviets in afganistan
in 1979 the soviet union and afganistan became involved in a long war. an agfanistan who was under the influince of the soviets tried to modernize the nation. they wanted social reforms. and land redistribution. when the warlords took up arms aginst the government the soviets moved in. fight ing the muslim religion proved to be as dificult as fight in gorillas in the jungel. the soviets got so tired and worn out that they went home. -

unlike poland and hungry east germany resisted gorbachev's call for change. the east germand banded the sovieuts publication because of what it considerded. east germans blocked moved twarded grater political leadeers and marcket economy.wast germans could watch TV form west germany so they knew how many freedoms they had. peoplle from east germany got out when ever they could and would go to west germany. -
