Politics-Election of 1800/ Revolution of 1800
This election between Adams and Jefferson, where Jefferson won, was the first peaceful transition from one political party to another. The government transitioned from Federalist to Democratic-Republican. This election also showed the difference between the two political parties. -
Expansion- Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was the event in which the United States bought a large sum of land from France (800,000 Square miles.) This purchase is important to American history because all the new territory made for much more diversity and incorperated more culture. This land also makes up a great deal of U.S. territory. -
Politics-Embargo of 1807
The Embargo Act was when the U.S. cut off all trade with Britain and France to force the two nations into respecting U.S. nutrality in the two nations conflicts. It was an act that hurt the U.S. more than anything because we had no one to trade with, which gave us no access to certain goods. It also hurt our economy with no trade. -

The war of 1812 was between America and Great Britain and was casued by dissagreements regarding overseas shipping and trade.The U.S. also used this war to test how much influence they could have on foreign affairs. -
Expansion-Florida Cession
The Florida cession of 1819 was when Spain sold Florida to the U.S. for 5 million dollars. Florida had only been an expensive burden to Spain. The Adams-Onis Treaty which was signed by Spanish foriegn minister Onis and Secretary of State, John Quincy Adams, was an important event in defining the U.S.-Mexican border. -
Slavery-Turner's Rebellion
Turner's Rebellion was led by nat Turner, a Virginia slave. The rebellion was when Turner and over 50 followers attacked four plantations, killing 60 whites. The whites did capture and execute Turner and many of his followers. This rebellion was important because it frightened and angered many slaveholders. This created agruments of prevention through emancipation, but also ones of tighting and defending slavery. -
Innovation-Samuel F.B. Morse Patened the Telegraph
In 1837, Samuel F.B. Morse, an Artist from New England, patened the telegraph. The telegraph sent coded messages over a wire in a few seconds. Bussineses used this new invention to send orders and give up to date info on prices of sales. -
Expansion-Mexican Cession
The Mexican cession was when Mexico made an agreement with the U.S. to give up 500,000 square miles of territory as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This treaty ultimately ended the Mexican-American war. -
Slavery- Civil War
The civil war was between the North and South of the U.S. It was caused by the South seceding, which began with South Carolina. This war was significant in helping end slavery in the U.S.
