    (1) Alexander Graham Bell created a patent application for the invention of the telephone. This application was formed after Bell had done several experiments on telegraphy. In 1871, Bell started his experiments by working on the harmonic telegraph, but then began experimenting to find a way to transmit human voice over wires (2). By 1875, Bell had come up with a simple receiver that could turn electricity into sound and immediately went to the patent office to get the rights to the discovery.

This image is the first style of desk telephones, and after about 30 years, a new design of the desk telephone was invented, which was more stylish. This invention had a huge impact on society, permitting people to exchange information without having to put it in writing (5). It revolutionized the way that people communicated with each other.

It was the first handheld cellular phone that allowed people to make longer distance calls and din't require lines or cords being attached. This advancement in telephones changed societies' attitudes and expectations since it made communication easier (8). This phone transformed the way we keep in touch and began the slow death of the wired phone system (9).

The invention of smartphones has completely changed the ways we communicate with each other. With just a few taps on our screens, we can send text messages, make phone calls, or video chat with people across the globe; this level of connectivity has made it easier to stay in touch with loved ones, regardless of where they are in the world (11).
