China becomes Communist
When Japan invaded, the leader of the Nationalist Party needed help. He asked Mao and his army to help him. Mao did. Then when they beat the Japanese, Mao turned on the Nationalists. The communist army took over and the CCP took power. On the 1st of October, 1949, Mao announced the establishment of the Peoples Republic of China. This was when China officially became communist. -
The Great Leap Foward
The Great Leap Forward took place in 1958. The Great Leap Forward was when Mao tried to to modernise China’s economy so that by 1988, China would have an economy that was like America. This resulted in China experiencing the Great Famine. -
The Mao Cult (propganda)
In 1962, Mao advocated the SEM, His goal was to use propganda to gain more followers/ supporters of his communist syle goverment. He made posters, created songs, and he even created government publications. -
The Little Red Book was published
The little Red Book is a book of writings and seleted speech staments by Mao Zedong, the former leader of the Chinese Communist Party, it was published from 1964 to about 1976 and was widely distributed during the Cultural Revolution. -
The Cultural Revolution
The Cultural Revolution was a social-political movement that took place in the People's Republic of China from 1966 until 1976. Created by Mao and the comminist chairmen, their goal was to establish a completly communist govermet and get rid of chinese trations. -

Red Guards were a mass paramilitary social movement of young people in the People's Republic of China (PRC), who were mobilized by Mao Zedong in 1966 and 1967, during the Cultural Revolution. -
Mao Zedong dies
On September, 9th 1976, Chinese revolutionary and statesman Mao Zedong, who had been suffering from Parkinson's disease and other health problems died in Beijing at the age of 82. -

The Tiananmen Square Massacre
On June, 4th 1989 troops with assault rifles and tanks killed unarmed civilians trying to block the military's advance towards Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Students and other citzens had been protesting in the area for seven weeks.
