Life
Emel Öget was born in 1912. Her father's name was Fevzi Öget. She married with Tahsin Gazimihal. She was turkey's first female news anchor on the radio in the years when there wasn't television. -
She started as a newsreader
She was working in İstanbul in the PTT (Türkiye's Postal and Telegraph organization) in 1937. TRT (Türkiye's Radio and Television Institutions) wasn't established in these years, so PTT was in responsible. She hired as a newsreader in Ankara Radio and she started working immediately without any prior training. -
First woman who read the war news
On October 1, 1937, with Atatürk's request, she went to London for training at the BBC. Emel, who was one of the first presenters of BBC Turkish was also the first woman in the world to read war news. After stayed there for 6 months, she returned to Türkiye. She worked as a news anchor on Ankara radio. And the Turkish people listened to the course of the Second World War from her voice. -
Death
She returned to Istanbul and continued her work in istanbul Radio. After worked there about 10 years she retired. And she past on in 1998.
