  • Elizabeth Is Born...

In Rochester, New York. She grew up with a love for the dangerous and was very much involved in sports. Even as a child she relished anything involving risk.

    Elizabeth Streb

  • Elizabeth begins attending the State University of New York at Brockport

During her time there she completed an Undergraduate degree in Modern dance.
  • Graduates from College and Moves to San Francisco

There, she got cast in the Margaret Jenkins Dance company. The company is still in existance today and boasts collaborations with Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, and many other famous artists.
  • Elizabeth leaves the Margaret Jenkins Company

Jaded with the constraints of modern dance, which as an artform, claims to be exploratory, Elizabeth begins forming her own philosophy about movement.
  • Elizabeth begins her own dance company

Streb/Ringside was founded when Elizabeth returned to New York. She found the dance she had been practicing "dishonest" (Weslyn 36) due to the fact there was no prospect of danger when things are so meticulously choreographed. Her still existing company uses laws of physics and formulas to create numbers for her dancers. They are high risk and don't involve music, as music is a constricting force to creative movement. She calls it the "enemy of dance." (TheLipTV)
  • (Early 90's) Streb sees a child slam himself into a wall

Adolecents are one of Streb's biggest inspiration. One day, while visiting North Philidelphia, she saw an underpriviledged child slam into a wall with everything he had. Streb said it was because "he had nothing to lose. That's how those people hit walls." (Homes) She applied this philosophy to her dancers who hold themselves to a high standard due to their privileged backgrounds. She turned this idea into a children's class called S.L.A.M. in which about 400 kids are enrolled.
  • Received the Genius Award from the MacArthur Foundation

Streb has recieved quite a few notable awards throughout the years. She also has two honorary docotorates.
  • The Company Moves Locations and SLAM is opened

Streb moved the company to a restored parking garage located in the neighborhood of Williamsburg, an area of Brooklyn. The height of the space creates an atomosphere in which the dancers can experiment with the effects of the force of Gravity. Slam stands for Streb Lab for Action Mechanics. Clever.
  • Pulblishes book

The book, released by feminist press, is called "STREB: How To Become An Action Hero.
  • One Exctraodinary Day

During the London Olympics in 2012, Streb worked from the morning until night on scaling London's landmarks. The performed 7 tasks across various icons of London. Most notably on the London Eye, performing a spoke dance. These daring do's can be seen in her documentary.
  • Born To Fly is released

This is the documentary which features Streb and her dancers in their rehearsals. While Streb does not use music in her pieces, her producer sets the dances to music after they are filmed. The documentary also features dancers getting injured.
  • Elena Finishes her Timeline of Elizabeth Streb

I've really fallen in love with Streb's work. It's like Miesner Movement. Truth trumps and what she does with movement is beautiful.
