James Marshall discovered gold in California. Everyone was very happy so they all decided to move to California. This meant that they had to create Boomtowns. These were small communities, so the new settlers could live there. -

She got rejected from 28 schools since she was a woman but when she went to Philadelphia, she also got rejected. -
Final Acceptance
At first, she applied to many other colleges but she finally got accepted at Geneva (New York) Medical College. Luckily, the people were proud of her and thought that she would be a hardworking student. -

She spent her summer here in Philadelphia because she was working in women's syphilitic ward. -

When Blackwell was treating a patient, on accident, some of the bacteria on the patient splashed on her left eye. Unfortunately, she was rushed into the hospital and became blind a few weeks later. -

Unfortunately, her eye had to be replaced by a glass eye because it was inflammed a lot. -

He published the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin". Stowe and Blackwell were two good friends. -

She was officialy a medical student. She wanted to follow her sister's footsteps. Blackwell wanted to become the first woman doctor in the country. -

Elizabeth opened a Civil War Nursing Service for the military soldiers. She workerd with her nurses to treat sick soldiers in the war from the north and the south. -

The Red Cross was established internationally. The American Red Cross was also organized as well. -

The New York State had empoqered the institution for the first woman doctor. But she was unable to to put that power in practical since the war wasn't over and she needed necessary funds. -

After all of the hardwork, she presided over the New York Infirmary. -

The British were treating people unfairly and Blackwell created a group to make the British better. At first, it was a small, but later on, she thought that it would become large and shape how British were. -
Moved to "Rock House"
She and Kitty decided to move to a "Rock House". Kitty was her daughter. It was a home for her and her daughter for the three years. -
Gave up her Medical Practice
Blackwell gave up her medical practice at an age of 73 years old because she had a reason. -
What she Wanted
She returned to the United States with her daughter and she told Kitty that when she died, she wanted to be buried at Kilmun. -

She met Zakrezewska, he was German and he wrote that Blackwell was very hardoworking. -
Blackwell Died
Elizabeth died of a stroke at an age of 89 years. She was buried at Kilmun just how she wanted. She will always be remebred forever.
